The midwifery team tell us about your family’s pregnancy. The Health Visiting team will be in contact with you during the pregnancy.

Once your baby has been born, we will contact you to arrange a home visit, usually when your baby is 10-14 days of age. This visit provides an opportunity for you to discuss your newborn baby, your transition to parenthood and any issues or concerns you may have.

We will share information with you about caring for your baby, local services, Family Hubs and clinics and explain how to book to see a health visitor and have your baby weighed. The Personal Child Health Record (or red book) records your child’s health and development.

It is yours to keep. Please bring this along to appointments.

This contact gives you an opportunity to discuss how your baby is growing and progressing.

Parents often have many questions on topics such as baby safety, immunisations, feeding, baby peeing and pooing, and parental mental health and wellbeing. We are always happy to help.

When your child is between 9-12 months of age, before the appointment, you will receive, in the post, an Ages and Stages (ASQ) questionnaire.

This is an opportunity for you to complete and share with us your understanding of how your child is growing and developing. Please bring the completed questionnaire to the appointment, but please don’t worry if you forget or don’t have time to complete all the questions; we will go through it with you at the appointment.

We can also provide support with issues such as sleep, feeding, speech, and home safety.

When your child is between 24-30 months of age, before the appointment, you will receive, in the post, an Ages and Stages (ASQ) questionnaire.

This is an opportunity for you to complete and share with us your understanding of how your child is growing and developing. We can discuss your child’s overall development and other topics such as nutrition, dental health, toileting, sleep, and getting ready for nursery and school.

When you move into the Solihull area with a child under 5 years, your GP will inform us.

The Health Visiting Team will contact you and arrange a time to come and see you at home. This visit is to tell you about our service in Solihull and all the local activities that may interest you.

We also complete a health assessment with you and provide any support you may need.

There are several child health clinics you can attend if you have any concerns regarding your baby’s/child’s weight and progress.

You will meet with a health visitor or nursery nurse who will be able to guide and support you.

We have a texting service, which you can use to contact us.

You can ask any questions via text, and one of the Solihull Health Visitors will respond to you.If you’d like to chat with a health visitor, you can message us using our ChatHealth text service.

All texts are responded to within 24 hours by a health visitor. Texts sent outside the service’s working hours will receive a return message, informing you that your text will be responded to when the service reopens.

Solihull Family Hubs are fantastic spaces where you can take your child and experience different activities and groups. We work closely with the hubs, and our clinics are held in a local family hub.

The family hubs have an app that you can download to see what activities you may wish to attend.

Solihull Family Hubs

A dedicated team of experts will be able to provide advice on key Early Help topics, ranging from parenting guidance and child development to school attendance and support in coordinating Early Help assessments and plans.

Support also involves signposting to local services such as the Solihull Family Hubs, managing child behavioural issues, ensuring health and emotional well-being needs are being met, and referring parents to Family Support Workers.
