Your midwife will talk to you about FNP at your first booking appointment, and your midwife will notify the team.  You can also self-refer, and we are happy to take self-referrals. If you have any questions, please call our team at 0121 779 2892.

Yes of course, your allocated nurse will work around your day and the nurse can visit you to fit your schedule.  The nurse works Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm

Yes, your allocated nurse will stay with you until you graduate to health visiting, we may have to change your nurse, but your nurse will always talk to you about this.

The allocated nurse will contact you to arrange a recruitment visit so she can talk to you about the FNP programme.  The nurse will answer any questions. FNP is voluntary and the nurse will give you time to consider it.

If you decide to join the programme, this is an overview of our visits

• The FNP programme is a home visiting programme, and so we mainly see you in your home, but may see you in the community for example, in family hubs, local community locations or at the young parents group.
• The visits are up to an hour and are always planned and arranged with you.
• The nurse will visit you a lot while you are on the programme, starting early on in pregnancy, and you can stay until your child is 2 years old.
• The nurse will design the programme around you and your needs and will bring activities with her. We do a lot of different activities to help you prepare for parenthood and then manage your baby and being a parent. The nurse can offer creative activities and play that is fun for all.
• The nurse is there to guide you in your parenting journey.
• The nurses are all trained in baby massage.

Yes, we are all registered nurses with a lot of experience in nursing and midwifery.  We all come from many different areas of nursing but have decided to specialise in public health nursing and have done extra training to do this. To become a family nurse, we have to complete extensive training, taking 18 months. In our team, we have 8 registered nurses with many years of nursing experience.

No, while you are on the programme you allocated FNP nurse will deliver all the services that a health visitor would do, this is called the Healthy Child Programme. Your allocated nurse will do a handover to the health visitor when you graduate from the programme. She can also arrange a joint home visit to meet your allocated health visitor if that is what you would like, your nurse will talk to you about this.

No, we will always review your situation, and you have an option to graduate when your baby is 1 year old. Your nurse will discuss this with you, and you can always ask her.
